When it comes to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), there are three simple ways to go about it. Most people think you can press a magic button these days and that you will appear at the top of the search results, but sadly this isn’t true. Here are some of the common questions I get asked, and some of the tips that I have for making SEO a walk in the park.

1.) Pay Google to do all the hard work. Advertise with them directly using Google Adwords. This can be expensive but no doubt the most successful method. Investing in (approx) £1 per click is a great way of reaching your customers, and Google have a lovely customer service team who are happy to help you come up with new keywords (search terms) that people might type in to their search engine to try and find you. 2.) Pay a specialist to boost your website every month. SEO Consultants have a full time job in making sure that websites stay close to the top of the search results. They login to your website several times a month, change a bunch of stuff such as text, data, image descriptions etc, and look out for ways to make sure you are seen. Some of them are also ‘content creators’ – perhaps writing a blog for you, creating all of your social media status updates etc, which generally costs more. This is because Google updates itself with your website many times a week, sometimes a few times a day. If you are changing parts of the website all of the time, you are more likely to be nearer the top – it’s that simple. A website that never changes stays at the bottom. Gone are the days you can type in ‘keywords’ and people will stumble across your site – Google stopped all that in 2013 and now keeps it for Adwords. Nowadays you have to work hard to stay above your competition, or pay somebody else to do it.

3.) Purchase an SEO StartUp Package from Simplysigns. This means when customers type in your company name, or key aspects of your service, you are searchable on Google. A website without any degree of SEO at all will not be found easily, not even by your company name. Google takes months to pick things up ‘naturally’ – so we give it a boost by jumping straight in there, giving Google lots of great stuff to get it’s teeth into. Questions I am often asked:

Can you make my website appear on the first page?
With the SEO StartUp Package, it all depends on your competition, how much your website ‘changes’ (activity), and if you have social media. I tend to get startup companies on the 2nd or the 3rd page, but this is not always the case. For example, in Construction, there is so much competition that others may have paid Google directly with Adwords to appear above you. We do try our best, but there are many variables, and no magic button.

Can you help with Google Adwords?
I can help you set it up, and research other search terms your competition may be using, and have some suggestions from you too on what you’d like to be searched under. We can set up your account with these keywords, and then ask for your card details to enter into Google directly, and after that you can manage your account on your own and change keywords once we give you a tutorial. This service to set things up starts from £200+vat for a 5 page website, but is not the same as the basic SEO service and is Adword specific.

Will having a Facebook or Twitter account help me?
The easy answer is – only if you use it. For example, if you just have a Facebook Page and it lies dorment, people who ‘like’ your page will soon lose interest as they know you are never posting updates. Some clients even see an inactive Facebook Page as a sign that the company are no longer doing business! If you have a Page, update at least 3 times a week – you can set up an app to do this from your smartphone in no time at all. Make funny updates, educational updates, give free advice, share images of your work – stuff people want to share. Networking – that’s how it works! If people want to share your updates then word gets round, other people like your page, and you’re in the money. Jump on Facebook while it’s free, you have nothing to lose.
